Betty O’Mary Burch Carter
Feb. 14, 1920 — June 3, 2010
Betty O’Mary Burch Carter passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 3, 2010 after a brief illness. Betty was born on Feb. 14, 1920, in Waurika to Clyde W. Burch and Tessie Pearl O’Mary Burch. Services for Betty were held Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at May Avenue United Methodist Church with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery.
After graduating high school, Betty served as a radio technician at Tinker Field during WWII. After the war, Betty attended the University of Oklahoma, where she met and later married the love of her life, William E. Carter, in 1949. Betty was employed for many years and retired from the Oklahoma City Public School system as a librarian.
During more than 50 years of marriage, Betty and Bill remained committed to themselves, their church, May Avenue United Methodist Church, their family, plus their friends and professional endeavors. Betty enjoyed her later years as a resident of The Statesman Club at the Vineyard.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bill.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Cindy O’Mary Daviee and her husband, David; her son Carson L. Carter III and his wife, Celeste; grandchildren, Jennifer Lowder, Justin Lowder, and Cecelia E. Carter; great-grandchild, Keily Lowder; plus many nieces and nephews, and friends at May Avenue United Methodist and the Vineyard.
