WAURIKA, OK — Vonetta “Fern” McManus

Aug. 3, 1938 — Aug. 21, 2010

Vonetta “Fern” McManus was born to Ruby and L.D. White on Aug. 3, 1938 south of Waurika. She died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 in her home in Arkansas City, Kan. at the age of  72. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City was in charge of the arrangements.

Fern graduated from the Waurika High School in May of 1957. She married Clifton McManus, Jr. on Sept. 7, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Waurika.

In 1961, Fern and her husband relocated to Arkansas City where they settled and began their family. On Oct. 16, 1961 Fern began working at G.E. Engine Services where she worked as Administrative Assistant for the plant manager for 47 years.

Fern was proceeded in death by her father and mother, L.D. and Ruby White of Waurika.

She is survived by a sister, Sue Thompson of Temple; a brother, Lynn White of Arkansas City; three daughters and spouses, Kelley and Steve Bliss and Lori and Anthony Salas of Arkansas City, and Julie and Mark Palmer of Derby, Kan.; and nine grandchildren, Steven Benton of Arkansas City, Shawn and Allison Benton of Midwest City, Kayla Benton, Elizabeth Grizzle, Megan Salas, Jordan Salas, Katherine Salas, Allyson Salas, all of Arkansas City, and Jett Palmer of Derby.
