ARDMORE — Vernon Dean Christian

Sept. 20, 1932 — Aug. 5, 2010

 Vernon Dean Christian was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Earlsboro to the late R.C. Christian and Georgia Lee (Cheatum) Christian. He passed away on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at the Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore at the age of 77. Service was held Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010 at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Dr. Virgil R. Trout officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Masonic rites.

Vernon graduated from Waurika High School and later served with the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Uniroyal Tire Company in Ardmore, where he worked as a warehouse organizer. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, belonging to the Masonic Lodge in Waurika, a member of the Jaycee’s, a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika and the former secretary of the Jefferson County Election Board.

Vernon married Glenna Margaret Edwards on Feb. 11, 1952 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Glenna Christian, of the home; children Karen Christian Stowe and husband Richard “Dicky” Stowe of Tahlequah, Vernon Duane Christian and wife Terry of Ardmore, and Deana Christian Mendenall and husband Alan of Ardmore; grandchildren Kari Stowe Hill and husband Eric of Chouteau, Jessika Stowe McKaskle and husband Jordy of Monroe, La., Kyle Joe Christian of Oklahoma City, Misty Mendenall of Ardmore, and Chris Mendenall and wife Josie of Durant; great-grandchildren MaKenzie Hill and Zane Hill, both of Chouteau, and Sam Mendenall of Durant; sister Joyce Swarb of Longview, Texas; brother, Ray Christian and wife Linda of Odessa, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Elizabeth Brock Boggs, Nita Morphis and Wanda Dunham; and brothers Cliff Christian and Warren Christian.

Casket bearers were Kyle Christian, Chris Mendenall, Eric Hill, Jordy McKaskle, Jerry Bill Keele and Dillard Kelley. Honorary casket bearer was Darrell Dunham.
