The best remedy for a couple of tough losses is a win. That’s just what the Lady Eagles did Tuesday evening against the Geronimo Lady Blue Jays, sending them packing with a 52-20 drubbing.
After being dispelled from the Rush Springs Black Diamond Tournament, the Lady Eagles were looking for a chance at redemption. That’s just what they got Tuesday evening.
The game didn’t start out the way the Lady Eagles or their skipper Everett Hodges had expected. The Lady Blue Jays jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first stanza. The lead didn’t last too long, as the Lady Eagles woke up and took a 11-7 lead into the second period.
The 11-0 run the Lady Eagles responded with in the first stanza continued to the second. The Lady Eagles took a 21-9 lead into half-time. The Lady Eagles continued to pour it on, leading 34-15 after three quarters of play.
“Stacy Brandon really had a huge game for us,” Hodges said. “She caught fire. It’s good to see that, especially after a weekend like we had. It’s good to see one person step up and take charge of scoring. Stacy did that for us.”
To see his team’s resiliency after a poor performance at the Black Diamond Tournament and a slow start to the game, Hodges was well pleased with how they responded.
“We just really had to work hard to refocus in practice,” Hodges said. “We have to have more people coming to the gym and shooting. If practice is the only time we are up here shooting, we are going to have some issues.”
