County takes first step toward bridge work

WAURIKA — A project to repair a damaged bridge in southwestern Jefferson County began Monday, when the county commissioners took action on a force account.

By approving the force account, the commissioners set in motion a process that will lead to replacing a tin horn on a bridge crossing Fleetwood Creek.

“The bridge is east of Terral and it got washed out,” said Commissioner Loyd Kimbro, who requested the item be placed on the agenda for the regular meeting at Jefferson County Courthouse.

Kimbro said that by approving the action on the District 3 force account, “we’ll discuss it at a CED meeting and with our engineers, and then we’ll go to ODOT (Oklahoma Department of Transportation)” for approval.

During the brief gathering in the commissioners chambers, the county chiefs also approved claims and authorization of blanket purchase orders and minutes from a regular meeting on Sept. 30.

During new business, the commissioners okayed a request from County Court Clerk Carolyn Watkins and Treasurer Vickie Behrens to close their offices on Oct. 22. Watkins office will be closed all day, while Behren’s office will close from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m..

In addressing an item dealing with a possible incorrect entry in the personnel policy on payment dates, it was discovered no mistake had been made and no action was taken.
