Sorosis Club series features Duncan OB/GYN as first speaker

WAURIKA — As part of a series on women’s health issues, hormonal replacement therapy will be the focus Friday, when Dr. Kimberly Criswell Hennan speaks at a women’s health luncheon at noon Friday, at the Waurika Senior Citizen’s Center.

Waurika’s GFWC-Sorosis Club is partnering with Jefferson County Hospital to sponsor the four-part series, with Hennan to present the initial program.

A native of Duncan, Hennan recently joined the staff at the new Duncan Women’s Center at Stephens County Hospital, where she practices a full range of obstetrics and gynecology. While her presentation will touch on several health topics, the main focus will be on traditional and alternative (bio-identical) hormonal replacement therapy.

Hennan attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and completed her residency training in June at the University of Oklahoma Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

“We are pleased to partner with Jefferson County Hospital to bring the four-part women’s health series to Waurika, and we’re particularly pleased to start the series with such a knowledgeable presenter,” said Monica Bartling, Sorosis Club president

Noting that proceeds from the $5 lunch fee will be donated to the Senior Citizen’s Center, she added, “The programs also provide an opportunity for us to raise money for the Senior Citizen’s Center, and we appreciate their willingness to provide both the meal and the venue for the event.

“We hope that we have a good turnout for this presentation and the entire series, which will be held on the first Friday in October, November, February and March.”

The women’s health seminars are just one of the activities and events geared toward health and quality of life that are underway or soon to occur locally.

Jefferson County Turning Point Committee is planning to host baby-sitting classes that will certify people for baby-sitting positions, and the Oklahoma Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids program is making a difference in two Jefferson County school districts.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with Women’s Haven of Jefferson and Stephens counties having acknowledged the event by hanging ribbons on lamp posts in Waurika and receiving an official proclamation from Waurika Mayor Gayle Johnson.

Oklahoma State University Parent Child Connection is promoting its varied services, and the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary recently received a noteworthy donation from Waurika Elementary School student for its Pennies for the Hospital project.
